The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Plateau State Chapter, Hon. Rufus Bature, has reaffirmed the Party’s unwavering commitment to peace, democratic stability, credible elections and responsible political engagement as Nigeria formally enters the 2027 electoral campaign season.
Hon. Bature made the position known on Wednesday, 19th August 2026, when he participated in a high-level strategic security and electoral engagement meeting with the Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, CP Faniyan Ayodeji, his management team and the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the Forces Officers’ Mess, Jos.
The strategic meeting provided an important platform for political and electoral stakeholders to strengthen cooperation on security, electoral preparedness and the protection of the democratic process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
With the commencement of the Presidential and National Assembly campaign window on 19th August 2026, and the scheduled commencement of Governorship and State House of Assembly campaigns on 9th September 2026, the APC Plateau State Chapter has declared that its campaign will be anchored on issues, development, responsible leadership and the peaceful coexistence of all citizens.
APC: WE WILL NOT SACRIFICE PEACE FOR POLITICAL ADVANTAGE
Hon. Rufus Bature stated unequivocally that no political ambition is greater than the peace and stability of Plateau State.
He therefore charged APC members, supporters and political stakeholders across the 17 Local Government Areas to remain disciplined, law-abiding and respectful of the rights of other political parties and citizens throughout the electoral season.
«“We are entering an important political season, but politics must never become a justification for violence, hatred or division. The APC believes strongly that elections should be a contest of ideas, programmes, competence and the capacity to serve the people—not a contest of violence.”»
The Chairman further emphasized that the APC will cooperate fully with the Police, INEC and other relevant institutions to ensure that the electoral process is conducted in an atmosphere conducive to peace, order and democratic participation.
He warned that provocation, hate speech, intimidation, violence, destruction of campaign materials and other acts capable of undermining public peace have no place in the APC’s political culture.
A PARTY PREPARED FOR VICTORY, BUT COMMITTED TO DEMOCRACY
According to the APC Chairman, the Party is confident of its growing strength and political acceptance across Plateau State, but that confidence will not translate into complacency or disregard for democratic rules.
He called on APC supporters to campaign with confidence, engage the people with facts and communicate the Party’s vision for Plateau State and Nigeria without resorting to personal attacks or inflammatory rhetoric.
He also urged opposition parties to embrace peaceful competition and allow the people to freely make their choice at the ballot box.
The APC Plateau State Chapter equally commended the security agencies and INEC for their continued efforts towards ensuring a secure and credible electoral environment.
Hon. Bature maintained that the APC is ready for the 2027 elections and will campaign vigorously across Plateau State, but will do so within the framework of the law and with full respect for the democratic rights of every citizen.
PEACE BEFORE POLITICS, DURING POLITICS AND AFTER ELECTIONS
The Chairman declared that the APC’s commitment to peace is not a campaign slogan but a fundamental responsibility to the people of Plateau State.
He called on all citizens, traditional institutions, religious leaders, youth organisations, civil society organisations, the media and political parties to collectively protect the peace of the state before, during and after the 2027 election.
