The Plateau State Chapter of the National Association of Former Elected Local Government Council Chairmen of Nigeria (NALGON-Emeritus) has endorsed Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang and his Deputy, Ngo Josephine Piyo, for re-election in 2027.
The association also endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for a second term, expressing confidence in their leadership and commitment to sustaining development at both state and national levels.
The endorsements were announced on Thursday, 29th October 2026, during an audience with Governor Mutfwang at the New Government House, Jos.
The motion for the endorsement was moved by Hon. Tirsen Innocent, former Chairman of Mikang Local Government Council and former Member of the House of Representatives representing Mikang/Qua’an Pan/Shendam Federal Constituency. It was seconded by Hon. Mary Dang, former Chairman of Riyom Local Government Council, and received overwhelming support from members through a standing ovation.
Speaking on behalf of the association, its State Chairman, Hon. Joseph Guluwa, said the decision was driven by the desire to see the continuation of ongoing development initiatives, particularly those aimed at improving the lives of people at the grassroots.
He commended the Mutfwang administration for its interventions in the transportation sector, road infrastructure, prompt payment of salaries, pensions and gratuities, as well as efforts to revive BARC Farms and reclaim the Panyam Fish Farm. He also highlighted other rural development initiatives as evidence of the administration’s commitment to inclusive development.
Hon. Guluwa further assured the Governor that members of the association would take the message of the endorsement to the grassroots, mobilising support across wards and polling units ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In his response, Governor Mutfwang expressed appreciation to the former council chairmen for their visit and confidence in his administration. He described them as experienced political leaders whose contributions to grassroots governance remain valuable to the state.
The Governor urged the association to extend its mobilisation efforts beyond the state elections by actively supporting the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027. He expressed optimism that with collective commitment, Plateau State could emerge as a major swing state in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Earlier, Hon. Simon Gwan opened the programme with a brief historical account of the association and its activities in Plateau State.
The Director-General of the Mutfwang/Piyo 2027 Campaign Council, Sir Joseph Ari (KSM), delivered the vote of thanks, while the Deputy Governor, Her Excellency Ngo Josephine Piyo, gave the closing remarks.
Also present at the meeting were the Secretary to the State Government, Samuel Jatau, and the Governor’s Political Adviser, Hon. Istifanus Mwansat, among other dignitaries.
The endorsement underscores the association’s stated commitment to supporting the Mutfwang/Piyo administration’s development agenda and the Tinubu/Shettima presidency ahead of the 2027 elections.
