PLASMIDA Equips Plateau Youths with Skills for Financial Independence

The Plateau State Microfinance Development Agency (PLASMIDA), in collaboration with the Plateau Youth Council (PYC), on Tuesday, October 15, 2025, held the closing ceremony of the Financial Literacy and Digital Marketing Skills Training for youths drawn from the 17 Local Government Areas of Plateau State.

The event, themed “Plateau Youths Mastering Financial Literacy and Digital Skills for Business,” took place at Eliel Centre, Gold and Base, Rayfield, Jos.

In his remarks, the Director General of PLASMIDA, Hon. Bomkam Ali Wuyep, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders and partners who made the program a success, including the Secretary to the Government of the State (SGS), Arc. Samuel Jatau, the Plateau Youth Council, the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), and First City Monument Bank (FCMB).

Hon. Wuyep announced that a total of 450 vibrant Plateau youths successfully graduated from the program, emphasizing that the event marked not just the end of a training exercise but the beginning of a new chapter for hundreds of young Plateau entrepreneurs. He noted that the participants have been equipped with essential financial literacy and digital marketing skills to grow their businesses and contribute meaningfully to the state’s economy.

He further appreciated the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, for his visionary leadership and commitment to youth empowerment through the “Time Is Now” agenda, which continues to create an enabling environment for entrepreneurship and enterprise development across the state.

Representing the Plateau State Government, the Secretary to the Government of the State, Arc. Samuel Jatau, commended PLASMIDA and its leadership for their dedication to youth development. He reiterated the government’s continuous efforts to engage young people across diverse sectors to help them attain self-reliance. He congratulated the beneficiaries and encouraged them to make good use of the skills acquired.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Plateau Youth Council, Mr. Panaan Gongden, observed a minute of silence in honour of Plateau youths who lost their lives in the unfortunate crises across the state. He lauded the Plateau State Government for collaborating with the council through PLASMIDA and also appreciated the Governor for his unwavering commitment to youth empowerment, especially through initiatives like BacFarm, which has benefited over 1,000 youths.

As part of the partnership support, First City Monument Bank (FCMB) provided over 100 youths with Point of Sale (POS) machines, enabling them to kick-start their businesses immediately after the training.

The event ended on a joyful note as beneficiaries, including Mantim Nanzin, Hope Davou, and Mathew Gambo, shared their excitement and testimonies on how the training has equipped them with valuable skills that will transform their lives and businesses.
