The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has confirmed Meadkom Dung Vincent as the running mate to its Plateau State Governorship Candidate, Alfred Dapal Damiyal (ADD), ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The development came on Tuesday, 15th September 2026, during the party’s affirmation exercise held at the NDC State Secretariat in Jos, where party delegates and stakeholders gathered to formally reaffirm Alfred Dapal Damiyal as the party’s standard-bearer for the 2027 governorship contest.
With the nomination of Meadkom Dung Vincent, the NDC now has a complete governorship ticket as the party begins preparations for what promises to be a keenly contested election in Plateau State.
The exercise was conducted under the supervision of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), providing the required institutional oversight as the party completed an important stage in the process of preparing its ticket for the 2027 election.
For Damiyal, the choice of a running mate signals the beginning of a new phase in the political journey of the NDC ticket. It brings together two personalities expected to work as a team in taking the party’s message of a new approach to governance to communities across the state.
The emergence of Meadkom Dung Vincent also gives greater structure to the NDC’s campaign as it prepares to engage voters across Plateau’s 17 local government areas. The party intends to build its campaign around its NEWTHINKING philosophy, which calls for a departure from conventional approaches to governance and places emphasis on accountability, transparency, equity, inclusion, innovation and human-centred development.
Damiyal has consistently argued that the challenges confronting Plateau require fresh ideas and a different approach to governance. His position is captured in his often-repeated message:
«“We cannot continue to apply analogue solutions to digital problems if Plateau is to make meaningful progress. We need a new way of thinking if we desire a new Plateau.”»
The NDC campaign says its proposed approach will focus on critical areas including security, education, agriculture, employment, economic development, infrastructure, youth empowerment, innovation and accountable leadership.
Damiyal, who has professional experience in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector as well as a background in entrepreneurship and leadership, has presented the NEWTHINKING agenda as an attempt to place competence, innovation and measurable results at the centre of governance.
With the selection of Meadkom Dung Vincent as his running mate, attention will now shift towards how the newly constituted ticket will translate its message into a grassroots campaign capable of connecting with voters across Plateau State.
For supporters of the NDC, the 2027 election is more than a contest for political office. They see it as an opportunity for Plateau people to consider the kind of leadership they want for the state and to make a deliberate choice based on competence, development, accountability and the ability to respond to contemporary challenges.
The affirmation of Alfred Dapal Damiyal and the nomination of Meadkom Dung Vincent therefore mark an important step for the NDC as it moves from the process of selecting its standard-bearer to the more demanding task of taking its message to the people.
With Damiyal at the top of the ticket and Meadkom Dung Vincent as his running mate, the NDC now enters the next phase of the 2027 governorship race with a clear team, a defined philosophy and an agenda it hopes will resonate with the people of Plateau State.
