Senator Diket Plang Advocates for Enhanced Agricultural Productivity in Plateau Central

In a recent address, Senator Diket Plang, representing Plateau Central, emphasized the critical role of agriculture in the economic well-being of families in the zone. He highlighted the predominance of rain-fed farming over irrigation and its impact on family livelihoods.

“Farming is fundamental to our economic survival,” said Senator Plang. “It allows families to pay fees, access healthcare, and more. Missing out on a productive farming season can have dire economic consequences for families.”

The senator identified several challenges facing Nigerian farmers, particularly in Plateau State. Despite the zone’s abundant land and natural resources, farmers struggle with accessing essential inputs like organic and inorganic fertilizers. Senator Plang stressed the importance of providing these inputs to boost agricultural productivity and yield.

“One of the most fundamental inputs for agriculture is fertilizer,” he stated. “Access to inorganic fertilizer can significantly improve yields and, consequently, the economic status of our farmers.”

Addressing the issue of low wages, Senator Plang proposed that increasing agricultural productivity could lower food prices and improve workers’ purchasing power. He praised the current administration for its investments in agriculture, which he believes are crucial for achieving food security and job creation.

“I thank the president and the APC administration for their commitment to agriculture. By improving agricultural production, we can ensure food security and create jobs for Nigerians,” he said.

Senator Plang also highlighted the importance of leadership at various levels—political, religious, traditional, and youth—in reaching the people and ensuring the effective distribution of resources. He called on leaders to responsibly manage and distribute agricultural inputs to their respective groups.

“Responsible leaders must ensure that resources reach their groups. It is crucial for enhancing agricultural productivity and, ultimately, achieving food security,” he added.

Expressing gratitude to his constituents, Senator Plang reaffirmed his commitment to their well-being and called for collaboration among local, state, and federal governments to provide democratic dividends to the people.

“Together, we can achieve success. The governor, local government, and federal government must all play their roles effectively,” he urged. “May God continue to give us grace and patience as we work for our people.”
