The NDC Plateau State governorship candidate, Mr. Alfred Dapal Damiyal, on Tuesday received the party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, in Plateau State as they visited internally displaced persons (IDPs) taking refuge at Pilot Primary School, Mangu.

Peter Obi arrived in the state through the Yakubu Gowon Airport, where he was received by Damiyal. The two thereafter proceeded to Mangu to identify with families displaced by the persistent attacks and insecurity affecting communities in the area and other parts of Plateau State.

During the visit, Peter Obi expressed deep sadness over the continued attacks that have forced innocent citizens from their homes, disrupted livelihoods and left many families dependent on humanitarian assistance.

He said his decision to visit the displaced persons was driven by compassion and a desire to personally see their situation, stressing that moments of humanitarian crisis should not be viewed through political lenses.

According to him, the lives, dignity and wellbeing of citizens must remain a priority, regardless of political differences.

For Damiyal, the visit was an opportunity to draw attention to the difficult reality facing displaced families in Mangu and to reassure them that their plight has not been forgotten.

He appreciated Peter Obi for making the journey to Mangu and for choosing to personally identify with the victims of insecurity.

Damiyal described Obi as a “godsend to Nigeria,” noting that his willingness to visit communities affected by insecurity demonstrated compassion and concern for ordinary Nigerians.

He said the presence of the presidential candidate among the displaced families would offer them a measure of comfort and hope at a time when many are struggling to rebuild their lives.

Also speaking, Da. Moses Dawap, representing the Mishkaham Mwaghavul, expressed appreciation to Peter Obi and Alfred Dapal Damiyal for visiting the displaced communities and standing with them in their moment of need.

He thanked the visitors for taking the time to see the situation firsthand, describing such gestures of solidarity as meaningful to people who have endured loss, displacement and uncertainty.

The visit underscores the growing concern over the humanitarian consequences of insecurity in Plateau State and the urgent need for sustainable peace, protection of communities and meaningful support for displaced families.

For Damiyal, the visit was not merely about politics; it was about standing with people who have been forced away from their homes and reminding them that their pain matters.
