In a remarkable effort to promote education and provide opportunities for vulnerable children, the Member representing Mangu South Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Dr. Mathew Sylvanus Kwarpo, has inaugurated a Scholarship Scheme Committee to oversee the implementation of an educational support programme for deserving students across the constituency.
The inauguration ceremony took place at his residence in Mangu and forms part of activities marking the third anniversary of the administration of His Excellency, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, whose government has consistently demonstrated a commitment to educational advancement, social inclusion, and human capital development across Plateau State.
The scholarship scheme is designed to provide financial assistance to students at the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels. Special priority will be given to students affected by the recurring crises in Mangu Local Government Area, as well as other less privileged but academically promising students within Mangu South Constituency.
Speaking during the inauguration, Hon. Dr. Kwarpo emphasized that education remains one of the most powerful instruments for transforming lives, rebuilding communities, and restoring hope, especially for young people whose dreams have been threatened by economic hardship and insecurity. He noted that many families continue to face challenges in meeting the educational needs of their children and stressed that the initiative is aimed at ensuring that deserving students are not denied access to quality education because of circumstances beyond their control.
According to him, investing in education is an investment in the future of the constituency, adding that empowering young people through learning remains a critical pathway to sustainable development and lasting peace.
To ensure transparency, fairness, and credibility in the implementation process, a committee comprising respected stakeholders and representatives of various groups within the constituency was inaugurated. The committee will be chaired by Dangkat Hashimu, while the National President of the National Association of Mwaghavul Students (NAMS), Dakos Godswill, will serve as Secretary. Other members were drawn from key organizations and groups, including the Balka Movement, APC Mangu LGA, Mwaghavul Development Association (MDA), Mwaghavul Youth Movement (MYM), Plateau Youth Council (PYC), TIM, and the Central Zone Coordinators.
The committee has been tasked with developing a transparent selection process and ensuring that the scholarship opportunities reach the most deserving beneficiaries across the constituency. The initiative further underscores Hon. Dr. Mathew Sylvanus Kwarpo’s dedication to educational empowerment and his resolve to complement the developmental vision of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang by creating opportunities that will positively impact the lives of young people and strengthen the future of Mangu South.
