The Plateau State Government has commended the 17 Local Government Council Chairmen for their commitment to grassroots development, following a statewide project inspection tour conducted by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs across the three senatorial zones of the state.
The commendation was made by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Chief Ephraim Usman Gar, during a press briefing held on Thursday, 5th November, 2026, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Jos.
The briefing, which had some Local Government Council Chairmen in attendance, provided an opportunity for the Ministry to present its findings and highlights from the inspection tour, which covered all 17 Local Government Areas of Plateau State.
Speaking during the briefing, Hon. Gar explained that the exercise was part of the Ministry’s statutory responsibility to monitor, inspect and provide guidance to Local Governments to ensure effective administration and the judicious utilisation of public funds.
He noted that the tour was also designed to assess the progress of completed and ongoing projects, ensure compliance with quality standards and strengthen collaboration among the State Government, Local Governments and traditional institutions.
According to the Commissioner, the inspection was undertaken in line with the vision of the Time Is Now administration of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, which places priority on delivering the dividends of democracy to communities at the grassroots.
Expressing satisfaction with the outcome of the exercise, Hon. Gar said the 17 Council Chairmen had demonstrated commitment to the Governor’s development agenda, adding that the projects inspected reflected a deliberate effort to bring governance closer to the people.
He observed that the projects were largely people-oriented and responsive to the actual needs of their respective communities.
Giving an overview of the projects inspected across the three senatorial zones, the Commissioner said the tour commenced in the Southern Zone, where the team assessed several development initiatives, including the remodelling of youth centres, mini stadiums, Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres, legislative chambers, solar-powered streetlights, primary healthcare centres, motorised boreholes and housing estates for legislators.
Other notable projects inspected in the zone included the Wase Rock Radio and Television Station, as well as facilities at the temporary headquarters of the 175 Infantry Motorcycle Battalion of the Nigerian Army, highlighting the support of the Local Government Council for security and peacebuilding.
In the Central Zone, which covered Kanam, Kanke, Pankshin, Mangu and Bokkos Local Government Areas, the inspection team visited several infrastructure and community development projects.
Among them were the ongoing 23-kilometre Gugur Road construction in Kanke, the remodelled Dengi Multipurpose Hall, primary healthcare centres, the 1,500-capacity event hall in Mangu and the 200-capacity Anatomy Laboratory at Plateau State University, Bokkos, funded by the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON).
The team also inspected the Palace of the Ngolong Ngas and transformers provided to support rural electrification, among other projects.
The Northern Zone, comprising Bassa, Barkin Ladi, Jos East, Jos North, Jos South and Riyom Local Government Areas, was the final phase of the inspection tour.
Projects visited and commissioned in the zone included primary healthcare centres at Sabon Gari, Chinye-Miango, Garba Daho and Furaka; rural electrification projects in Miango; Council Secretariat complexes; ICT centres; and ultra-modern markets at Rishari-Rutara and Zarakon.
Other projects included bridges linking Farin Gada to Rusau and Vwang to Kogot, police station outposts, as well as town halls in Kwang and Kuru.
Hon. Gar stressed that the projects inspected across the 17 Local Government Areas demonstrated the commitment of the Council Chairmen to improving the living conditions of their people through investments in critical infrastructure and essential services.
The Commissioner expressed appreciation to God Almighty and Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang for providing the necessary support and enabling environment for the Ministry and Local Government Councils to discharge their responsibilities without undue interference.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the Council Chairmen, traditional institutions, the media and Civil Society Organisations towards the successful conduct of the statewide inspection exercise.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to sustained monitoring, effective supervision and constructive engagement with Local Governments to ensure that development initiatives translate into tangible benefits for the people of Plateau State.
He concluded by thanking members of the press for their participation and continued partnership in keeping the public informed about government activities.
The inspection tour, according to the Ministry, reflects the administration’s determination to strengthen grassroots governance and ensure that development reaches communities across Plateau State.
