Plateau State Government Supports Disability Inclusion: Allocates Building for NCPWD North Central Zonal Office

Today marks a significant milestone in the journey towards disability inclusion in Nigeria! The Plateau State Government has handed over an apartment to the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, demonstrating their commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities in Nigeria.

Hon. Peter Gye, representing His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, reiterated the administration’s dedication to empowering people with disabilities. He also praised the humanitarian efforts of Chief. Ayuba Burki Gufwan, Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, even before his appointment as the CEO of Beautiful gate handicapped people’s centre.

Chief Ayuba Burki Gufwan acknowledged the staggering number of people living with disabilities in Nigeria – approximately 35 million. To address this, the commission plans to establish six offices across the six geo-political zones. And, as of today, they’ve successfully set up the North Central office in Jos, courtesy of the Plateau State Government’s generosity.

This development aligns with global efforts to promote disability inclusion. For instance, UNICEF’s Disability Inclusion Policy and Strategy (2022-2030) aims to create an inclusive environment for children with disabilities. Similarly, India’s National Policy recognizes the importance of creating an enabling environment for persons with disabilities.
