The Plateau Peace Building Agency, on September 17, 2024, hosted a youth sensitization seminar aimed at promoting the role of youth in fostering peace. The event, held at the Old Government House in Jos, brought together youth representatives from Bassa and Jos North Local Government Areas, comprising both Christian and Muslim participants.
The program began with a pre-test to gauge participants’ understanding of security issues. Dr. Julie Sanda, the Director General of Plateau Peace Building Agency, emphasized the critical role youth play in peacebuilding. She explained that the purpose of the interaction was to gather youth perspectives on addressing peace-related concerns.
Hon. Nanbol Daniel, the Chairman of the Plateau State House Committee on Peace and Security, encouraged the youth to take an active role in maintaining peace, noting their significant potential to influence positive change.
Miss. Hope Chuwang, a facilitator at the event, spoke on the importance of dialogue, linking it to the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 2250 on youth, peace, and security. The event reached its peak during interactive sessions, where participants shared their views on the root causes of conflict and proposed solutions.
The seminar provided a platform for youth voices and reinforced the importance of their involvement in peacebuilding efforts across Plateau State.
