On June 27, 2024, the Plateau State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (PLASCHEMA) held a pivotal 5-year strategic plan validation meeting, bringing together critical stakeholders to discuss and validate the agency’s roadmap for the next five years. The meeting, which took place in Plateau State, featured an assembly of PLASCHEMA’s directors, including Dr. Kwande Dawal, Director of Operations and ICT; Dr. Nden Julfa, Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics; Mrs. Altine Gonden, Director of Internal Audit; and Mrs. Theresa Gowen, Director of Marketing and Business Development.
The event commenced with a welcoming speech by Dr. Nden Julfa, who conveyed the apologies of Dr. Manasseh Agabus, the Director General of PLASCHEMA, for his absence. Dr. Julfa emphasized the importance of the strategic plan validation, noting that the input and support of critical stakeholders are essential to the agency’s success in implementing its vision.
Dr. Solomon Kwakfut, the consultant overseeing the project, provided a comprehensive presentation on the significance of the 5-year strategic plan. He outlined the agency’s vision: to establish a government-led, sustainable system that delivers responsive, reliable, agile, and affordable healthcare services and commodities to Plateau State citizens, aligning with the principles of universal health coverage and maintaining competitive quality standards.
Dr. Kwakfut elaborated on the mission, which aims to offer stakeholders in procurement and supply management (PSM), medicines, healthcare products, and laboratory commodities a robust framework for optimizing resources. This framework seeks to ensure cost-effective, efficient, transparent, and accountable supply chain management for health development, in line with the Health Act 2014 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) target 3.8.
The core objectives of the strategic plan include: Strengthening health institutions for enhanced visibility.
Operationalizing the Drug Revolving Fund (DRF) scheme.
Digitalizing the drug management system.
Enhancing research and partnerships.
The meeting was attended by key stakeholders from across the state, such as Pharm. Jerry Kim, Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Drug Management Agency; representatives of the Commissioner of Health; representatives of the CMD Plateau State Management Board; PIDAN; representatives of the Civil Society Organization (CSO); and the Chairperson of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ). These stakeholders expressed their support for the strategic plan and pledged their backing to His Excellency, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang.
Following a series of discussions and interactions, the stakeholders unanimously adopted the 5-year strategic plan, marking a significant step towards achieving the agency’s goals and improving healthcare delivery in Plateau State.
The validation of this strategic plan signifies a collaborative effort to enhance the healthcare system, ensuring that it meets the needs of the citizens effectively and efficiently. With the commitment of all stakeholders, PLASCHEMA is poised to make substantial progress in the coming years.
