Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has urged youths in Plateau State to use social media responsibly, warning against the spread of unverified information, inflammatory messages and content capable of deepening tensions in the State.

The Governor gave the advice on Sunday at COCIN LCC Panyam, Mangu Local Government Area, during the 2026 PUUS CIN PILANG (Thanksgiving Service) of the Mwaghavul Bible Translation Committee, held under the theme, “Yaweh Wuri a Naan a ZEEN-NZEEN” (Yahweh Is God Indeed).

Speaking to the congregation, Governor Mutfwang acknowledged the important role young people play in shaping public conversations, particularly through social media. He encouraged them to see the various digital platforms not only as avenues for entertainment, but also as tools for promoting truth, peace, unity and the cultural values of their communities.

He cautioned youths against forwarding information simply because it is trending, stressing the need to verify facts before sharing content, especially during periods of insecurity and heightened emotions. According to him, irresponsible use of social media can create unnecessary fear, worsen existing tensions and cause further harm to communities already dealing with difficult circumstances.

The Governor encouraged Plateau youths to use their voices positively by telling the stories of their communities, promoting the State’s rich cultural heritage and supporting efforts that bring people together rather than those that divide them.

His remarks came as he commended the Mwaghavul Bible Translation Committee for its commitment to preserving the Mwaghavul language and making the Word of God accessible to a wider population. He noted that initiatives such as the translation of the Bible into indigenous languages are important not only for Christian faith but also for preserving the identity and heritage of the people.

Governor Mutfwang also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives, property and ancestral lands across Plateau State, while urging citizens, particularly young people, to remain vigilant and support lawful efforts to maintain peace and security.

The service featured a message by Rev. Kafas Amos Tang’an of COCIN UK, who encouraged the congregation to remain steadfast in faith despite the challenges confronting the people. The occasion also witnessed the dedication of the uniform for the Mwaghavul Bible, ahead of the formal dedication of the translated Bible scheduled for November 2026.
