The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has visited internally displaced persons (IDPs) taking refuge at Pilot Primary School, Mangu, Plateau State, expressing deep concern over the incessant attacks and humanitarian crisis affecting communities across Mangu and other parts of the state.

Mr. Obi arrived in Plateau State through the Yakubu Gowon Airport, where he was received by the NDC Plateau State governorship candidate, Mr. Alfred Dapal Damiyal. The duo thereafter proceeded to Pilot Primary School in Mangu, where hundreds of displaced persons are currently seeking refuge.

Speaking during the visit, Mr. Obi expressed sadness and bitterness over the persistent attacks that have continued to displace innocent citizens and disrupt communities in Mangu and other parts of Plateau State.

He said his visit was not politically motivated, but rather driven by a genuine concern for the plight of the affected people and a desire to identify with them at a difficult moment.

According to him, humanitarian concerns should rise above political considerations, particularly when the lives, livelihoods and dignity of citizens are at stake.

Receiving and accompanying the presidential candidate, Mr. Alfred Dapal Damiyal appreciated Mr. Obi for finding the time to visit the displaced persons and for demonstrating concern for the people of Plateau State.

Damiyal described Peter Obi as a “godsend to Nigeria,” stressing that his concern for ordinary Nigerians and his decision to personally identify with people affected by insecurity demonstrated a sense of compassion and responsibility.

He noted that the visit would give the displaced persons a renewed sense of hope and reassure them that Nigerians beyond their immediate communities are concerned about their plight.

Also speaking, Da. Moses Dawap, representative of the Mishkaham Mwaghavul, expressed appreciation to Mr. Peter Obi and Mr. Alfred Dapal Damiyal for their support and solidarity with the displaced communities.

He thanked the visitors for remembering the victims of the attacks and for coming to Mangu to see the situation firsthand.

The visit comes amid continuing concerns over insecurity and displacement in parts of Plateau State, with affected communities calling for lasting peace, security and support for displaced families.
