Plateau NG-CARES organizes orientation workshop for newly Absorbed civil servants

The Plateau State CARES Coordinating Unit (PL-SCCU) under the Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, organized a two-day orientation and induction workshop for newly absorbed NG-CARES staff into the Plateau State Civil Service.

The event, which took place at the Millennium International Conference Centre, opposite Solomon Lar Amusement Park in Jos, Plateau State, brought together government officials, stakeholders, and participants drawn from various sectors. Speaking during the opening ceremony, the Technical Administrative Head of NG-CARES, Dr. Haggai Gutap, stated that the workshop was aimed at properly orientating and integrating the newly absorbed staff into the ethics and operations of the civil service system. According to him, the training became necessary following the successful absorption of the former NG-CARES project staff into the Plateau State Civil Service after the expiration of the World Bank-supported programme.

Dr. Gutap emphasized that the workshop would equip participants with the required knowledge, values, and attitude expected of public servants. He further appreciated the Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, for his commitment towards youth development and for creating opportunities for young people to become productive members of society.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Plateau State Civil Service Commission, Prof. Paul Wai, described the participants as unique beneficiaries, noting that although they were previously contract staff under NG-CARES, they already possess valuable working experience. He encouraged the newly absorbed workers to bring the skills, dedication, and experience acquired during their time with NG-CARES into the civil service. Prof. Wai further urged them to remain proactive, committed, disciplined, and loyal to the government in the discharge of their duties.

Several stakeholders who attended the event also commended the initiative, describing the training as timely and impactful. Among those present were the Director General of PLASMIDA, Hon. Bomkam Ali Wuyep; representatives from the Ministry of Finance; the Chairperson of the State Civil Service Commission; the Permanent Secretary of the Teachers Service Commission; and representatives of Development Partners (DPs).

The workshop also featured a series of insightful lectures aimed at improving workplace efficiency and public service delivery. Dr. Haggai Gutap presented a lecture on the general overview of NG-CARES 2.0, highlighting the achievements and future direction of the programme.
Mr. Nanjing Usman delivered a presentation on the application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the workplace, where he stressed the importance of digital knowledge and innovation in modern public service.

In another session, Mrs. Angela Dengwat spoke extensively on teamwork as a foundation for organizational excellence, emphasizing collaboration, unity, and effective communication as key drivers of productivity. The orientation workshop is expected to strengthen the capacity of the newly absorbed staff and prepare them for efficient service delivery within the Plateau State Civil Service.
