In commemoration of International Women’s Day 2026, the Women Without Walls Initiative (WOWWI) carried out a compassionate outreach to support elderly widowers in the community under the theme “Give to Gain.”
Rather than focusing solely on celebration, WOWWI chose to demonstrate the power of compassion and community service by extending care to a group that is often overlooked — elderly men who have lost their spouses and may be living without adequate support.
During the outreach, WOWWI volunteers visited four widowers in their homes where they provided practical assistance and emotional support.
Activities carried out during the visit included:
*Cleaning and sanitizing the homes of the widowers
*Conducting basic medical outreach, including health checks
*Providing care products and household supplies
*Donating food provisions
Spending time with the widowers, offering companionship, encouragement, and dignity.
The outreach also created an opportunity for volunteers to listen to the stories of the elderly men and understand their needs, reinforcing the importance of community care and inclusion.
According to the organization, the initiative reflects the deeper meaning of this year’s International.
Women’s Day celebration — demonstrating that true empowerment includes compassion, service, and solidarity with vulnerable members of society.
Women Without Walls Initiative continues to promote peaceful coexistence, social inclusion, and community empowerment, particularly focusing on women, youth, and vulnerable populations.
The Executive Director of the organization Apostle Esther Ibanga represented by the Head of Programs Lola Raji says the organization has reaffirmed its commitment to initiatives that strengthen communities through acts of kindness, practical support, and advocacy for dignity for all.
As communities around the world mark International Women’s Day, WOWWI’s outreach serves as a reminder that giving to others ultimately strengthens society as a whole.
