APC Unity Strengthens as Sen. I. D. Gyang Eyes Plateau Northern Seat

Distinguished Senator I. D. Gyang has emphasized unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State as political stakeholders begin to position themselves ahead of the next senatorial race in Plateau North.

Speaking during an interview, the aspirant noted that members of the APC family in the state including former governors, serving and former senators, and grassroots supporters have largely come together in support of the party’s direction and the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. According to him, many people in Plateau have chosen to align with the president because of what they see as the positive impact of his administration on the country and the state in particular.

Gyang explained that political actors and ordinary citizens alike are increasingly convinced that supporting the current administration is in the best interest of the state. He stressed that the growing support from the grassroots reflects the belief that the policies of the federal government are beginning to make a difference in the lives of the people.

The senator also drew attention to the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022, which allows political parties to select their candidates through consensus, direct primaries, or indirect primaries. In Plateau State, he said, members of the APC family collectively agreed to adopt the consensus option in choosing their candidates. According to him, that decision demonstrates the level of unity and understanding among party stakeholders in the state.

He further contrasted the present situation within the APC with what he described as the era of internal disagreements and political bitterness that characterized the period when the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) dominated the state’s political landscape. Gyang argued that the acrimony, animosity, and tensions that once defined the PDP’s internal politics have gradually faded as the APC continues to strengthen its base and attract broader support in Plateau.

According to him, the increasing alignment with the APC has helped reduce divisions and foster a more cooperative political atmosphere in the state. He maintained that unity among political leaders and supporters is essential for stability and development, adding that the party is determined to sustain this spirit of cooperation as it prepares for future elections.

Gyang concluded by expressing appreciation to party members and supporters for their time and commitment, while reiterating the importance of maintaining unity within the APC family for the progress of Plateau State and the country at large.
