MDA, Women Wing Hosts “Gwom Shaar Feast 2025” to Promote Unity and Cultural Heritage

The Mwaghavul Development Association (MDA) Women Wing National Body on Sunday, 29th December 2025, successfully hosted a colourful cultural event tagged “Gwom Shaar Feast 2025,” meaning Food for Friends. The event brought together women, cultural groups, traditional institutions, and government officials in a celebration of unity, friendship, and the rich cultural heritage of the Mwaghavul people.
The well-attended programme was graced by several dignitaries, including Her Excellency, Barr. Helen Mutfwang, First Lady of Plateau State; Mrs. Nanbam Ishaya Lalu, wife of the Member representing Mangu/Bokkos Federal Constituency; Hon. Chief Ephraim Usman, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, who also served as the Chairman of the Day; and Hon. Emmanuel Bala Mwolpun, Executive Chairman of Mangu Local Government Area and Chief Host of the occasion.

Also in attendance were Hajiya Jamila Gwandu, Chairlady of the Day; Da. Bulus S. Dabit, President of the Mwaghavul Development Association and Co-Host; Na. Grace Joseph Gora, President of the MDA Women Wing and Host of the event; traditional rulers; women leaders; and many other distinguished guests.
In her welcome address, Na. Grace Joseph Gora explained that Gwom Shaar Feast symbolizes the cultural diversity and communal spirit of the Mwaghavul people, as expressed through food. According to her, the event is characterized by the preparation and sharing of special meals and traditional delicacies aimed at strengthening friendship, promoting love, and fostering unity among women and the wider community. She expressed deep appreciation to Her Excellency, Barr. Helen Mutfwang, for honouring the invitation despite her tight schedule, and thanked all dignitaries and participants for their support and presence, which she described as a strong encouragement to the women wing.
In his remarks, Hon. Chief Ephraim Usman, Chairman of the Day, commended the President of the MDA, Women Wing and her executive members for initiating such a culturally significant programme. He noted that the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs is proud to associate with initiatives that promote peace, cultural identity, and unity, adding that the event would further project the rich image of the Mwaghavul nation beyond Plateau State.

Similarly, Hon. Emmanuel Bala Mwolpun, Executive Chairman of Mangu Local Government Area, applauded the women for their vision and commitment to cultural preservation. He assured the association of the continuous support of the local government in programmes that enhance unity, peace, and grassroots development.
On behalf of the Central Planning Committee, the Chairman, Sur. Jaafaru Dakwal, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all individuals and organizations who contributed to the success of the event, noting that the overwhelming turnout was a testament to the relevance of the programme.
The highlight of the event included a vibrant cultural match-past by various cultural groups, the presentation of awards and gifts to deserving individuals, and the sharing of traditional meals, all of which added color and excitement to the celebration.
