PLASMIDA Hosts MSMEs Stakeholders Engagement on the 2025 Nigeria Tax Reform Act

On 9th January 2026, the Plateau State Microfinance Development Agency (PLASMIDA) convened a high-level MSMEs stakeholders engagement workshop focused on the 2025 Nigeria Tax Reform Act, bringing together key public and private sector players to deepen understanding of the Act and its implications for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Delivering his welcome remarks, the Director-General of PLASMIDA, Hon. Bomkam Ali Wuyep, described the workshop as timely and strategic, noting that MSMEs remain the backbone of the Nigerian economy, driving job creation, innovation, and inclusive economic growth. He emphasized the need for a tax system that guarantees clarity, fairness, and predictability, stressing that these elements are critical for MSMEs sustainability and growth. According to him, the 2025 Nigeria Tax Reform Act is designed to address long standing challenges within the tax ecosystem, particularly as they affect small businesses. He further conveyed the goodwill and support of the Secretary to the Government of Plateau State and Chairman, Plateau State MSME Council, Arch. Samuel Jatau, who was scheduled to officially welcome participants but was unavoidably absent due to other pressing state assignments.

Hon. Bomkam concluded by expressing profound appreciation to His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, for his unwavering support and visionary leadership in promoting MSME development and creating an enabling environment for enterprise growth across the state.

Goodwill messages were also delivered by key stakeholders, including Mr. Jonathan Janfa, State Manager of SMEDAN, who reiterated SMEDAN’s commitment to supporting MSMEs through policy advocacy and capacity development. Similarly, Mr. Dauda Gashi, Executive Director of PLACIMA, commended PLASMIDA for initiating a critical dialogue that bridges policy reforms and private sector realities.

The workshop featured insightful technical presentations by seasoned professionals from relevant agencies. Mr. Victor Yakong of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) presented an “Overview of the 2025 Tax Reform Act and its Implications for MSMEs.” This was followed by Mr. Paul Arin of the Plateau State Internal Revenue Service (PSIRS), who spoke on “Addressing Stakeholders Expectations and the Way Forward for Tax Administration in Plateau State.” The third presentation was delivered by Ibrahim Bala of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), focusing on “Streamlining Registration and Compliance Requirements for Enterprises in Alignment with the Tax Reform.” The event culminated in an engaging panel discussion, during which the keynote speakers responded to questions from participants, clarified grey areas, and offered practical insights on navigating the new tax regime. The interactive session reinforced the importance of continuous stakeholder engagement in ensuring successful implementation of the Tax Reform Act.
