In a move aimed at modernizing health insurance administration in Plateau State, the Plateau State Health Care Management Agency (PLASCHEMA) has introduced a fully automated operational system designed to improve how beneficiaries are enrolled, treated, and managed across the state.
The new system, unveiled during a training session for health sector professionals, replaces the agency’s largely manual processes with a digital platform that manages everything from premium payments and enrolment to referrals and claims settlement.
Speaking at the event, PLASCHEMA’s Director-General, Dr. Kwande Solomon Dawal, said the automation marks a turning point for the agency. According to him, digitizing operations will help eliminate delays, reduce errors linked to paperwork, and strengthen transparency and accountability in the health insurance scheme.
“The goal is to make access to healthcare smoother and more reliable for our beneficiaries, while also making it easier for providers and administrators to do their work,” Dr. Dawal explained.
The training was facilitated by Imogie Abraham, Director of Human Resource and Planning at Luminous Nexus Limited, the firm behind the platform. He noted that the system was developed to address persistent challenges in beneficiary verification, claims processing, service delivery, and referral tracking.
During a live demonstration, Abraham showcased features such as real-time beneficiary validation, electronic referrals, automated claims submission, fraud detection tools, and instant reporting. He added that the platform would significantly cut administrative costs and improve efficiency for healthcare providers, HMOs, and the agency itself.
Participants at the training expressed optimism about the new system, describing it as a welcome departure from cumbersome paper-based procedures. Many noted that the automation would reduce paperwork, speed up service delivery, and improve coordination between healthcare facilities and Health Maintenance Organizations.
Stakeholders believe the digital transformation of PLASCHEMA’s operations will not only improve productivity and reduce costs but also strengthen the overall performance of the state’s health insurance scheme. Ultimately, they say, the initiative represents an important step toward expanding universal health coverage and improving health outcomes for residents of Plateau State.
