In commemoration of Children’s Day, Women Without Walls Initiative in collaboration with the Plateau State Peace Building Agency organized a celebratory event at the JCMI Recreational Centre in Lamingo, Jos North LGA, Plateau State. The theme of the event, “Tell the Plateau Story of Peace,” aimed to promote a positive narrative about the state and instill values of peace and harmony in children.
Joy Kaze, representative of the Plateau State Peace Building Agency, emphasized the importance of celebrating children worldwide. She highlighted the need to recognize the vital role children play in shaping the future and promoting peace.
Lola Raji, speaking on behalf of Women Without Walls Initiative, noted that children born between 2001 and the present often associate Plateau State with crisis and violence. This misconception, she explained, prompted the need for the celebration, which aimed to redefine the narrative and showcase Plateau State as a symbol of peace, rather than conflict.
The event brought together representatives from various schools, who participated in a range of activities, including:
- Peace drama performances
- Cultural dance presentations
- Spelling challenges
- Poem recitations
- Interactive questions and answers about Plateau State’s history and peace-building efforts
Through these activities, the organizers sought to educate and enlighten children about the true nature of Plateau State, promoting a culture of peace, tolerance, and understanding.
