As I reflect on my life’s journey, I am reminded of the transformative power of resilience and determination. In 1997, while campaigning for the NAPSS leadership at the College of Education in Gindiri, I suddenly lost my hearing. The experience was terrifying, and I struggled to come to terms with my new reality.
Despite the challenges, I persevered and continued to pursue my academic and leadership goals. I completed my NCE and went on to earn my PhD. My leadership experience began with my election as President of NAPSS COE Gindiri in 1996/1997, and I have since held various positions, including SSA to the Governor of Plateau, Member and Executive Chairman of the Plateau State Disability Rights Commission, and pioneer Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities .
Throughout my journey, I have been driven by a passion to amplify the leadership of persons with disabilities. I believe that it is time to recognize the leadership prowess of the disability community and provide opportunities for them to attain their rightful place in society.
As we celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, I am reminded of the importance of inclusivity and accessibility. I urge everyone to join me in advocating for the rights and empowerment of persons with disabilities. Together, we can create a more inclusive and sustainable future for all.
