Jos, the Plateau State capital, was filled with joy and celebration on Friday, November 29, 2024, as the maiden Plateau State Interdenominational Unity Christmas Carols and Praise Festival kicked off. The event, held at the Ten Commandments Prayer Altar in Du, Jos South Local Government Area, brought together dignitaries, renowned gospel artists, and mass choirs from various denominations.
The festival was attended by notable figures, including former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, and former President Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo. In his address, Gen. Yakubu Gowon emphasized the importance of unity, prayer, and peace, not only for Plateau State but for Nigeria and the world at large. He urged Nigerians to embrace peace and reconciliation.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang also highlighted the significance of unity in fulfilling Plateau State’s destiny as a land of promise and blessings. He expressed hope that the festival would become a symbol of unity and a platform to promote Plateau as a beacon of light for the nation.
The three-day festival, organized by the Plateau State Government in collaboration with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), features worship sessions and celebrations of the birth of Jesus Christ. The event continues over the weekend, starting daily at 3:30 PM, aiming to usher in the Christmas season with joy and reflection.
