National Conversation and Citizens Action on Ending Malaria in North Central Region Flagged Off in Plateau State

JOS, Plateau State – In a significant stride towards combating malaria in Nigeria, the office of Mrs. Abiodun Essiet, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North Central), in collaboration with CHESTRAD GLOBAL, Federal Ministry of Health, National Malaria Elimination Programme, African Leaders Malaria Alliance/ALMA, and RBM, today flagged off a National Conversation and Citizens Action on ending malaria in the North Central region. The event took place at Azi Nyako Youth Center, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The occasion witnessed the presence of key stakeholders, including Mrs. Alice Dimlong, the State APC Women Leader, and the facilitator, Mrs. Grace Babalola, Chief Nursing Officer from Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), alongside many other stakeholders from the Jos South community.

In her keynote address, Mrs. Grace Babalola emphasized the importance of preventive measures against malaria. She urged the audience to sleep under mosquito nets and adopt other preventative measures to protect themselves from mosquito bites, which are the primary cause of malaria transmission.

Mrs. Abiodun Essiet expressed her gratitude to the Federal Government, particularly President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for creating an enabling environment for the implementation of the program. She highlighted the devastating impact of malaria in the country and stressed the importance of using mosquito nets as a crucial preventive measure.

As part of the program’s activities, malaria tests were conducted, and drugs were administered to those who tested positive, demonstrating the commitment of the organizers to tackle the disease head-on.

The event served as a platform to raise awareness, engage stakeholders, and mobilize community action towards ending malaria in the North Central region, marking a significant step forward in the fight against this deadly disease.
