Demanding an End to Misunderstanding the Mwaghavul People’s Simplicity and Accommodative Nature
It is deeply regrettable that the peace-loving Mwaghavul Nation faces further unwarranted accusations amidst healing from past attacks. A recent press statement by Mahmud Jafar, claiming to represent “The Mangu Concern Muslim Consultative Forum (MCMCF)”, alleges the destruction of the Bungha Juma’at Mosque by Mwaghavul Christian Militias.
This misleading statement undermines the peace initiatives undertaken by the Mwaghavul authorities and exploits the community’s generosity. The truth is, the Mwaghavul people had provided a space for the Bungha Juma’at Mosque within the Bungha Market years ago.
The Mwaghavul Youth Movement has no history of violence and strongly rejects being labeled as militants. Accusations against us are baseless and damaging to our peaceful community.
It is noteworthy that over 40 churches across Mangu LGA have been demolished by the Muslim Umma, yet the Mwaghavul Nation remains committed to peace. The audacity of claiming ownership of Mangu Ward-1 and the main Mangu market by the Muslim Umma, and their refusal to allow Christians to use them, led to the alternative use of the Bungha Market by Christians.
We emphasize the Bungha Market’s permanence and call for the MCMCF to accept this reality and abandon any thoughts of relocating it due to fabricated news or parochial interests.
Lastly, we call on the MCMCF to refrain from inciting violence and acknowledge that no group has a monopoly on violence. The Mwaghavul Youth Movement urges security agencies to intervene and hold Mahmud Jafar accountable for his divisive actions.
